Measure your waist where the lifting belt will sit while you train, usually around the belly button.
Use a flexible tape or a piece of string you can measure after. (Don’t use pants size).
Pick the size where your waist sits near the middle of the range so you can tighten the belt for support.
The belt can overlap by up to 10 cm when fastened. Some lifters prefer extra support across the front, which is personal preference. The waist ranges above assume no overlap. If you want overlap, choose a size that provides up to 10 cm more than your measured waist.

Don’t wait like I did
I’ve been using the Turtle Strength Weight Lifting Belt for my lifts over the past few weeks. I balance full-time work, two kids and serious training, so support and safety matter. The belt feels solid and firm around my core. It helps me stay braced tight on heavy squats and deadlifts without slipping.
The buckle and padding handle regular sessions and don’t dig in. I wear it only on my heavy sets and notice better stability and more confidence under load. It’s definitely worth it if you want simple, no-nonsense support for strength training.

Perfect fit
Strong, supportive and good quality. I really like this belt. The webbing goes all the way around which reduces the chance of tearing under max lifts. Plenty of Velcro for adjustment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Understanding Weight Lifting Belts
What does a weight lifting belt do?
Belts increase intra-abdominal pressure by giving your core something to brace against as your abdominal wall expands. It will help you lift heavier weights. You can read more in our What Does A Weight Lifting Belt Do (article).
When should you use a lifting belt?
Use a belt when lifting heavy, around 75 percent of your max or more, on compound movements like squats, bench press and deadlifts. It's recommend to not use the belt for every set each time you train, to ensure you keep your core strong and don't have an over-reliance on the belt.
Can you use a normal belt as a lifting belt?
No. Regular belts can fail under load and don’t provide the width or support needed for lifting safely.
Is a belt necessary for strength training?
No, but it helps you brace harder and stay more stable on heavy lifts. Ultimately it's going to take your strength training to another level.
Buying and Caring for Your Belt
Which belt is best for beginners?
Choose a comfortable belt that isn't stiff and comfortable. Our Turtle Strength Belt is is a great for all levels of experience as it's comfortable and the locking mechanism allows you to easily switch being locking and roller depending on the style of the workout.
What size should I get?
Measure around your midsection. Don’t use your pant size. Our belts fit up to 120 cm in diameter. Read the size guide above.
How long do belts last?
Our belts will last years with basic care. Wipe it down and keep it dry.
Do I need to wear-in my belt?
No wear-in needed. It’s ready to use out of the box. Leather belts typically need to be wore-in.
How to Use a Belt Properly
How to use a weight lifting belt?
Place it above your hips, tighten it snugly, and brace your core into the belt before lifting. Wearing your belt correctly can make a significant difference in your lifting performance and safety. Read more in our How to Wear a Weight Lifting Belt (article).
How tight should a belt be?
Before lifting, test the belt's tightness. Inhale deeply and push your abdomen against the belt. You should feel resistance but still be able to breathe and brace your core. It should be snug enough to provide support but not so tight that it restricts breathing or movement. You should be able to brace your core against it comfortably.
Where should it sit?
Wrap the belt around your waist. Ensure it's placed where its comfortable, following the advice above. Make sure it covers your lower back and abdomen, sitting above your hip bones. Wearing a shirt or even a jumper can make it feel more comfortable during the lift. Read more in our How to Wear a Weight Lifting Belt (article).
Can wearing it too often weaken my core?
Studies have found that wearing a belt does not reduce core activation—in fact, it may even increase it because a belt helps lifters engage their core more effectively. That said, if you rely on a belt all the time, even for warm-ups or lightweight sets, you might become overly dependent on it. The best approach? Use a belt for your heavy squats, deads, and other max effort lifts, but train your core separately to build overall strength. Exercises like hanging leg raises, ab rollouts, and planks will keep your midsection solid without sacrificing belt benefits.
