WILKS SCORE CALCULATOR

Updated: 2 May 2025

Use the calculator below to find out your Wilks Score based on your bodyweight and lifts.

Choose whether to enter all 3 lifts or just your total.

WHAT IS THE WILKS SCORE?

The Wilks Score is a way to compare powerlifting performances across different body weights. It helps level the playing field between lighter and heavier lifters by adjusting the total weight lifted based on the lifter’s bodyweight. In short, it shows how strong you are for your size.

In Australia, most drug-tested federations have moved away from the Wilks Score. The Australian Powerlifting Union (APU), which is the affiliate for the IPF, now uses IPF Points. The Australian Powerlifting League (APL), another drug-tested federation, mainly uses the DOTS formula. Wilks is still used by some non-tested federations like GPC Australia (Global Powerlifting Committee) and CAPO (Australian Powerlifting Organisation).

HOW IS THE WILKS SCORE CALCULATED?

The Wilks formula uses a coefficient based on your bodyweight. You multiply the total weight you lifted (your squat + bench + deadlift) by this coefficient to get your Wilks Score.

Here’s the formula:

Wilks Points = Total Lifted × Wilks Coefficient

The Wilks Coefficient is calculated using this formula:

1 / (a + bW + cW² + dW³ + eW⁴ + fW⁵)

Where:

W = bodyweight in kilograms

a, b, c, d, e, f = set numbers (constants) that are different for men and women.

The constants for the original Wilks formula (for men) are:

a = -216.0475144

b = 16.2606339

c = -0.002388645

d = -0.00113732

e = 7.01863E-06

f = -1.291E-08

For women, the constants are slightly different.

If you want to avoid the maths (and trust us, most people do), that’s what the Wilks calculator on this page is for. Punch in your numbers and it’ll do it for you.

ARE THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES TO WILKS?

Yes. The original Wilks formula came out in the 1990s, and since then, newer systems have been developed.

  • IPF Points: Used by Powerlifting Australia (IPF affiliate) and in international competitions under IPF. It aims to be a fairer model based on recent lifter data.
  • DOTS Score: Becoming popular in Australia, especially in drug-tested comps like APL (Australian Powerlifting League). Many believe it gives a fairer comparison across bodyweights compared to Wilks.

Each scoring system has its fans and critics. Wilks is still widely respected for its simplicity, and it’s still what a lot of grassroots meets and classic federations here use.
